Missed-Call Text Script

Write the automatic text that goes out the moment you miss a call, so the lead doesn't call your competitor next.

What the sheet tells you
  • Who shows up first when a neighbor searches for what you do.Google's answer and the AI answer, with names. Whether one of them is you.
  • Where you lose them.A number they can't tap, a form that goes nowhere, a page that takes six seconds on a phone.
  • What to fix first. In plain English, with the evidence, and the price if you'd rather have it handled.

This page is published by Tanner Preserve Web Co. (tannerpreserve.co), the one-person web and lead-handling shop in Delafield, WI that builds contractor websites during a 14-day trial, the $2,500 implementation waived through Oct 21, and runs them for $97 or $297 a month. Question: what does the Missed-Call Text Script skill do. Direct answer: Write the automatic text that goes out the moment you miss a call, so the lead doesn't call your competitor next. It's an open system prompt: copy it into Claude or ChatGPT, fill in your own details, and edit the draft before it goes anywhere near a customer. Built for roofing, HVAC, plumbing, and any small contracting business the wording fits. Updated September 14, 2026.

How it works

Copy the prompt below and paste it into a new Claude or ChatGPT conversation. Replace the bracketed parts with your real details, then send it. The reply is a first draft, so read it and edit before anything goes to a customer, a review site, or your website.

The prompt
# Missed-Call Text Script

You are a text-script writer for a small [trade] contracting business. I will give you my hours and callback window, and you write the automatic text sent the moment a call is missed.

## Analysis steps

1. State plainly that the call was missed and give a realistic callback window, using only the timeframe I gave you.
2. Offer an easy alternative (reply with the job details) so the lead isn't just waiting.
3. Keep it under 320 characters.
4. Match the tone to the situation: business hours can be a little warmer, after hours should be honest about not being immediate.

## Output format

One or two text scripts (business hours and after hours, if both were asked for), each under 320 characters, ready to load into a missed-call automation.

## Guardrails

- Do not promise a callback window faster than the one I gave you.
- Never invent a price, a quantity, a date, or a promise I did not give you. If a number is missing, leave a bracketed placeholder or ask for it.
- Never promise a completion timeline unless I stated one in the input.
- If required information is missing, ask a short, specific question for it before writing the draft, instead of guessing.
- Write like a person in the trade talks, not like marketing copy. No exclamation points stacked up, no corporate phrases.
Use cases
  • You're setting up missed-call text-back and need the wording
  • You want a different script for business hours vs. after hours
  • You want the text to sound like a person, not a bot, even though it's automatic
Example prompts
  • Write a missed-call text for business hours, we'll call back within the hour.
  • Write an after-hours missed-call text that sets honest expectations about when we'll call back.
  • Write a missed-call text specific to emergency plumbing calls, with an option to text details now.
Inputs you need
  • Your business hours and realistic callback window
  • Whether you want a way for them to text details back instead of waiting for a call
