Squarespace vs Run and Grow, head to head
Squarespace leaves the build and the upkeep to you. I build the site, and Grow adds missed-call text-back, a CRM, and the review engine on top of it.
| Plan | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $16/mo | billed annually (per Squarespace's own plan-change announcement) |
| Core | $23/mo | billed annually |
| Plus | $39/mo | billed annually |
| Advanced | $99/mo | billed annually |
| Run (Tanner Preserve Web Co.) | $97/mo | 14-day free trial, cancel anytime, domain and Google profile stay in your name. |
| Grow (Tanner Preserve Web Co.) | $297/mo | Everything in Run, plus missed-call text-back, a CRM, and the review engine. |
The real trade-offs
- Squarespace is cheaper at every tier than Run or Grow. I don't compete on sticker price, I compete on what happens after someone lands on the page
- Squarespace has no missed-call text-back or CRM at any price. That's the whole second half of what Grow does
- If all you need is a pretty static site and you'll maintain it yourself, Squarespace is a fair, cheaper choice
Where Squarespace is the better fit
- Squarespace's templates are genuinely better-looking out of the box for portfolio-style work
- You want full e-commerce (products, subscriptions, memberships) on the same platform
- You're comfortable being your own webmaster and want the lowest possible fixed cost
Not for a contractor whose real problem is missed calls and un-followed-up quotes, not template design. That part is what I sell instead.
Questions that come up
How much does Squarespace cost?
Basic: $16/mo. Core: $23/mo. Plus: $39/mo. Advanced: $99/mo. Sourced from https://www.squarespace.com/pricing, fetched 2026-09-14.
What's the contract like with Squarespace?
No contract. 14-day free trial, no credit card required to start. Annual billing saves 28% to 36% versus monthly; every plan includes managed hosting.
Who actually builds and runs it, me or Squarespace?
You. Squarespace is a template-and-editor product; a Premium (agency-run) tier exists but is sold separately, by quote, through Squarespace's own sales team.
What does Squarespace not include?
No lead routing, CRM, or missed-call handling. No contractor trade knowledge baked into templates or copy. Transaction fees on lower tiers (2% on Basic) if you sell anything through the site. No one to call when a page needs a change; you edit it yourself.
Who is Squarespace the better fit for?
A visually-driven small business with someone willing to be the site's editor. Specifically: Squarespace's templates are genuinely better-looking out of the box for portfolio-style work. You want full e-commerce (products, subscriptions, memberships) on the same platform. You're comfortable being your own webmaster and want the lowest possible fixed cost.
Is this page biased since Tanner Preserve Web Co. sells a competing product?
Yes, weigh it accordingly. Tanner Preserve Web Co. publishes this comparison and competes with Squarespace; every number about Squarespace is dated and sourced, and the section on where Squarespace is the better fit is required on every page like this one, not an afterthought.
