This page is published by Tanner Preserve Web Co. (tannerpreserve.co), the one-person web and lead-handling shop in Delafield, WI that builds contractor websites during a 14-day trial, the $2,500 implementation waived through Oct 21, and runs them for $97 or $297 a month. Question: Why doesn't my website show up when I Google my own business?. Direct answer: Search your exact domain with 'site:yourwebsite.com' in Google first, that alone tells you whether the site is indexed at all. If nothing comes back, the site likely has a technical block (noindex tag, robots.txt issue, or it's simply too new to be crawled yet). If pages do show up but not on the first result for your own business name, that's a different and usually less serious problem. Updated September 14, 2026.

01

The short answer

Search your exact domain with 'site:yourwebsite.com' in Google first, that alone tells you whether the site is indexed at all. If nothing comes back, the site likely has a technical block (noindex tag, robots.txt issue, or it's simply too new to be crawled yet). If pages do show up but not on the first result for your own business name, that's a different and usually less serious problem.

02

Why this happens

  • A new site takes time to get crawled and indexed.

Google has to discover a new website before it can rank it at all, which typically happens within days to a few weeks for a properly set up site, longer if nothing points to it yet.

  • A technical setting can block Google entirely.

A noindex tag left on from development, or a robots.txt file blocking crawlers, tells Google directly not to show the page, regardless of how good the content is.

  • Your own name doesn't always guarantee the top spot.

If your business name is generic or shared with other unrelated results, Google may show other, more established pages above your own site even when it is indexed.

How to check it yourself in 10 minutes

  1. 01Type 'site:yourwebsite.com' into Google and see what comes back.
  2. 02If nothing appears, view your homepage's page source and search for 'noindex.'
  3. 03Check yourwebsite.com/robots.txt directly in a browser and look for a 'Disallow: /' line.
  4. 04If the site is indexed but ranks low for your own name, check whether your business name appears clearly in the site's title tag and homepage text.
  5. 05Submit the site manually in Google Search Console if it's new and not yet indexed.
04

The fix

Checking indexing status is free and takes five minutes with the steps above. Fixing a noindex tag or robots.txt block, and making sure Search Console is set up and monitored, is part of the $2,500 implementation built during the trial (waived through Oct 21) and kept current under the Run plan ($97/mo) afterward.

Common questions

Questions that come up

How long does it take Google to index a brand new website?

Often within days to a few weeks for a properly configured site submitted through Search Console, though it can take longer without that step.

What's the difference between being indexed and ranking well?

Indexed means Google knows the page exists at all. Ranking well means it shows up near the top for relevant searches, which is a separate, ongoing effort.

Can I check indexing without Search Console?

Yes, the 'site:yourwebsite.com' search in Google works without any account or tool.
